Legend Quest
is a fantasy role-playing game in which the player must
adventure through the unknown to increase the power of his/her
character, eventually becoming strong enough to slay the seven
'Terrors'. The game contains humor, quick rewards, and
hundreds of adventure events to keep the player excited about
the game.
In the beginning of the game, a new character will be
created if the user is a first time player. Then, the player
is asked whether he/she would like interactive help while
playing. Once "Y" or "N" is sent in response, the game will
begin. Game play primarily involves using the "a" command to
adventure within the current region. Reply with "t" to travel
to a different region (total of seven regions). In every
adventure event the player has to make a decision whether
their fantasy character is likely to outscore the computer
opponent or not. The list of choices is included with each
adventure event.
Example: "You:5-17. Spiked Golem:12 (F)ight (E)scape"
In this example, the score of the player's character will
fall randomly between 5 and 17. The opponent has already
rolled a 12. If the player feels confident about matching or
outscoring this value, then they should choose to fight. If
not, they should choose the safer road and escape. As the
character gains experience, he/she will become a more capable
adventurer. Eventually the fantasy character will become
strong enough to defeat each of the seven "Terrors."

Stats A player's character has six main stats:
Strength (STR), Agility (AGL), Intelligence (INT), Endurance
(END), Defense (DEF), and Magic (MAG). To raise these stats, a
character must gain stat experience (XP). Lifting a heavy
rock, for example, might provide "STR XP". Once a character
gains 10 XP in a particular stat, it will automatically be
traded in to increment the stat by 1.
A character also has a "Level" stat, which determines how
many Life Points he/she can have. If a character runs out of
life points, he/she is defeated and loses all XP that hasn't
been turned in for a new stat.
Resolving Events There are four main types of
events in Legend Quest. One involves no feedback from the
user, and is resolved immediately. The other three are listed
below:
Battle - The player must fight a monster. Battles
are based around using a particular stat. A "STR Battle",
for example, will determine your potential scoring range
based on your strength. Certain regions focus on challenging
different stats. In battle, the player may choose to
"(A)ttack" or "(E)scape". If attack is chosen and the
player's score comes out equal to or higher than the enemy's
score, the player wins the battle. XP is then awarded to the
player. If the player's score came out lower than the
enemy's score, the player loses the battle, and life points.
The escape command works similar to "(A)ttack", except that
the player gains a bonus 1-6 points when rolling, but has no
possibility of gaining XP - only safe passage. Escape allows
the player to potentially avoid a losing situation.
Traps - Traps challenge the player to either
"(A)void" or "(S)urvive" the situation. A successful avoid
will save the player from any harm. A failed avoid will
allow the trap to inflict damage. Survive allows the player
to 'tough out' the trap for reduced damage and works similar
to "(A)void", except the player gain a bonus 1-6 points when
rolling. A successful survive will reduce the damage in
half. A failed survive will allow the trap to inflict normal
damage.
Tests - Tests are a bonus event. The player will
be challenged to a test in a particular stat, and will be
allowed to "(A)ttempt" or "(C)heat" the test. If the attempt
succeeds, the player gains XP. If the attempt fails, the
player gains nothing. Cheat works similar to "(A)ttempt",
except that the player gains a bonus 1-6 points when roll.
If the cheat succeeds, the player gains XP as normal. If the
cheat fails, the player actually loses XP.
Traveling to Different Regions When not resolving
an event, a player may send "T" to travel to a different
region of the world. Each region has different types of
encounters, challenge different stats, and yield different
types of XP. Traveling does not cost the player any turns or
resources, so it may be done freely and often.
Fighting Terrors When a player feels confident in
the strength of his/her character, he/she may travel to fight
a "Terror". Each region of the world is ruled by one Terror,
and can be challenged via the travel menu. (Under "Fight
Terr(o)r") Each Terror challenges the player to combat in a
particular stat, and it is wise for the character to have at
least 12 points in that stat before challenging it. When the
player has defeated six of the seven Terrors, he/she may
challenge the final Terror and complete the game.
Note The player wins the game when the seventh
Terror is defeated Legend Quest takes many sessions to
complete, but each session is rewarding in itself. Each game
session is saved so when the player comes back to the game,
he/she may continue from where they left off.

Would you like interactive help to ease
into the game? Yes/no? A player may choose to have
interactive help ("iHelp") on while playing. This will
provide the user help and tips in regards to the
upcoming situation. When receiving iHelp, the player can
send "C" to continue to the next message, "S" to skip
out of iHelp, or "Q" to quit iHelp permanently. |
